I came across this man playing piano in Piedmont Park while I was on the hunt for the many instruments that Pianos for Peace had left around the city. Pianos for Peace is a not for profit organization that aims to achieve peace and promote philanthropy through art, music and education (from their website, which I would encourage you to check out: pianosforpecace.org).
I would love to tell you that this man was some undiscovered virtuoso, banging out a Beethoven Sonata or something by Chopin—suffice it to say he was not. But the message is the same—music is a powerful tool that can move us and connect us in ways that nothing else can. Hearing this piano ring through the fields and trees of Piedmont Park was an inspiring moment. This is a place that every Atlantan walks through at one time or another, and what better way to symbolize that connection than with music.
