Unsung Atlanta Behind the Photographs: Women Staring

After visiting the MLK Jr. Memorial, after standing in front of First Ebenezer Baptist Church, after seeing the mural of John Lewis, I came across these two women.  They were sitting under a bridge with all of their possessions, staring off in the same direction.

With so many powerful images of civil rights leaders running through my mind, this picture struck me as an unexpected lesson in unity.  I don't know these women's stories, but I do know that in this moment they were together, supporting one another during what seems to be a difficult time.  I like to think that they are looking off into the distance with hope, towards a future that is better and brighter.
